The Harpers Ferry-Bolivar Historic Town Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes, and to promote historical, scientific, educational, interpretive and economic activities of the Town of Harpers Ferry for the inspiration and benefit of the people of the United States as provided for in the Act of August 25, 1916 (16 USC Sec. 1 et seq) as amended and supplemented, including the Act of August 21, 1961 (75 Stat 586). Its activities may include, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code. No part of the net earnings or income or funds of the Foundation shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributable to its members, trustees, officers, or other private persons, except that the Foundation shall be authorized and empowered to pay reasonable compensation for services rendered and to make payments and distributions in furtherance of the purposes set forth above. Upon dissolution of the Foundation, assets shall be distributed for one or more exempt purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future Federal tax code, or shall be distributed to the Federal government, or to a state or local government, for a public purpose.
As part of its organization and maintenance of civic engagement, the Foundation will establish and maintain a partnership and cooperative agreement with the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
