Join us for a special Open Day celebrating all that makes Queensland great at Government House!
While Queensland Day falls on a Friday this year (not a public holiday… yet!), we invite you to celebrate with us the following day, Saturday 7 June, from 11am to 3pm.
This family-friendly event will showcase the vibrancy of Queensland, with a fantastic program of activities, performances, and displays across the historic grounds of Fernberg—official residence of the Governor of Queensland and a symbol of our State’s civic life.
It’s the perfect opportunity to gather with family and friends to celebrate what it means to be a Queenslander—our rich history, diverse culture, strong communities, and shared pride in this great state.
The day will feature a live performance by the renowned performing arts company Circa, offering a stunning showcase of their talent. Interactive displays and activities from Her Excellency’s patronages, including Surf Life Saving Queensland, Tennis Queensland, and Bowls Queensland, will provide fun and educational experiences.
For families, there will be children’s activities such as face painting, colouring in, and readings of A Place for All Queenslanders, the Government House children’s book. The ceremonial aspects of the day will offer a glimpse into the official duties of the Governor, including a flag-raising ceremony, ceremonial guard, and a town crier.
Live music will add to the atmosphere, featuring performances from Brisbane Metropolitan Bands Inc., Brisbane Excelsior Band, Brisbane Jazz Club Swing Central, the Army and Navy Bands, and the Queensland Irish Pipe Band.
A range of food and refreshments will be available for purchase, or feel free to BYO picnic. Government House Head Chef Paul Newsham will demonstrate the secrets behind his famous tempura-battered Mooloolaba prawns through a series of live cooking demonstrations (seats limited – first in best dressed!).
Take the opportunity to explore the historic Government House through self-guided tours or join a guided garden tour led by our expert horticulture team. Please wear comfortable shoes and be ready for some light walking.
