After a very successful barn owl class at the Oxford Summer School last year, I am returning to teach again in 2025 - with a kingfisher!
We will be using wool to create a life sized, 3D sculpture of a watchful kingfisher. He looks ready to dive into the water, for his catch of the day! Turn a pile of soft, fluffy sheep’s wool into a firm, felted object; by using a special barbed needle to tangle and bond the fibres.
On day one you will make an armature, build a wool core, and make the wings and tail. On the second day you will make the legs and feet, add colour, and finish with fine details.
This course covers various felting techniques; using templates, working with wire, adding silk clay to your work, blending colours, and getting a smooth finish. There will be lots of information and advice on wool types and different felting tools.
This class is suitable for beginners and those who have already have some experience. If you have your own needle felting tools, feel free to bring them; but not essential!
