THE SHIELD OF FAITH – Blocking the Arrows of Doubt, Delay, and Defeat

*Ephesians 6:16 – “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”*

Introduction:

Faith is not a feather — it is a shield. In the spirit realm, it is massive, divine, and impenetrable when properly raised. When the Apostle Paul says “above all,” he is not speaking of sequence but of significance. The shield of faith stands as our first line of defense when the enemy launches his fiery darts: doubt, fear, accusation, delays, discouragement, and defeat.

Today’s believer in this New Millennium Missions must master this shield, not as a static ornament of belief, but as a mobile, active tool of spiritual warfare. It must be strong enough to cover oneself — and broad enough to cover others.

1. Understanding the Nature of Fiery Darts:

Fiery darts are not just random inconveniences. They are intentional, targeted, demonic disruptions designed to destabilize your confidence in God.

Doubt – Is God really with me?
Delay – Why has my prayer not been answered yet?
Defeat – I tried and failed. Will I ever rise again?

These are not just thoughts — they are arrows! And they come flaming, intending to inflame fear, anxiety, and hopelessness. If not quenched quickly, they spread.

2. Faith Is a Shield, Not a Wall:

Unlike the helmet or breastplate which covers specific parts, the shield of faith is **mobile** and **adjustable**. It moves with you.

* In moments of grief, raise it over your heart.
* In moments of confusion, raise it over your mind.
* In moments of accusation, raise it as a testimony of your standing in Christ.

Faith allows the believer to respond, not just react — to advance, not retreat.

3. Raising the Shield – How to Activate It:**

Faith is not just knowing the Word; it is **using the Word**.

By Proclamation – Declare God's promises aloud. Faith comes by hearing (Romans 10:17).
By Action – Step out on what God has said, even when it’s not visible (Hebrews 11:1).
By Prayer – Strengthen your inner man. “Lord, increase my faith” (Luke 17:5).

Your shield is not raised automatically — it must be lifted **deliberately**.

4. Shielding Others in Battle – The Roman Formation:

Paul’s imagery comes from the Roman military tactic called the **testudo** or “tortoise” formation — shields interlocked to create a wall. In the Body of Christ:

* We stand side-by-side.
* Your faith can cover your brother in warfare.
* Collective intercession becomes a corporate shield.

In revival, we don’t just protect our own ground — we defend each other.

5. Faith as a Deliverance Force:

Faith is a counter-agent. It **quenches** fire. That is, it doesn't just absorb the arrow — it **nullifies** its power.

* When fear shouts, faith whispers: “God is still on the throne.”
* When the enemy delays your breakthrough, faith declares: “Though it tarry, it shall speak!” (Habakkuk 2:3)
* When defeat hisses, “You’ve lost,” faith roars: “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors!” (Romans 8:37)

This is the age of **missiles, not musket balls**. The enemy has upgraded his artillery — but so has Heaven! Our faith is forged in fire, and our shield is divine in origin.

Rise, O soldier of Christ, and take up your shield!
Quench every doubt.
Silence every fear.
Delay is not denial — your faith has a record of victory!
