Taking a moment to answer some questions that I’ve gotten about the a event for my dad on August 17, 2025.
(1) Where exactly will the event be? 1262 Price Road, Outlook, WA 98938, aka Jim and Jinny’s, NOT John and Mary’s/Donna’s. There will be balloons marking the driveway. When you turn up the driveway, it will be the third of three houses, the two story brown house with a fenced yard.
(2)Where should I park? Rumor has it that some of the owners of tractors that used to belong to my parents might be bringing them over. We’re going park those in front of the cornfield. After that, the parking should be relatively obvious, and I’m planning to bribe my nephew to be in charge of making sure people know where to park. Jim Flores who owns 1380 Price Road has graciously offered up the farm for overflow parking.
(3) Will it be safe for kids? Well, we are on our fifth generation of McMinimee children and so far the worst thing that’s ever happened was a bloody nose playing a ill conceived game of hide and go seek in the dark in the 1980s. Most of the things that we in the legal trade refer to as “attractive nuisances” that were there when we were kids aren’t here anymore. The yard where the event will be is fenced. We are going to have an area set aside for kids to play yard games and we are going to pay the responsible high school age little cousin to provide general supervision. Ir you were still worried that you will lose your child to a cornfield, make your own decision. No judgment
(4) What time should I be there? Is there going to be a formal program? Come by at or after 3 pm. There will not be a formal program, though I believe the VFW may come do a 21 gun salute and we might recruit a cousin who’s going into ministry to say a prayer. That is about as formal as we will get. If you want to tell Jimmy story, go for it. Just remember that Sarah and I are Jim’s daughters and therefore our standards for a good story are high. Don’t disappoint us.
(5) How hot is it going be? While it’s supposed to be hotter than Hades here in Outlook for the next few days, the forecast for next Sunday is partly cloudy with temperatures in the 80s. The majority of the yard will be shaded by 3 PM. There’s also still some seating in the house if people need to take air-conditioning breaks.
(6) If I am coming from out of town, where should I stay? We recommend the Best Western in Sunnyside. It’s right off the freeway and painted purple so you can’t miss it. They have a pool. Prosser also has a Best Western and a Holiday Inn Express right off the freeway. Can’t speak to if they have a pool or not but I’m sure the website will let you know.
(7) Can I bring anything? You do not need to. But if your heart is set on bringing a lemon meringue pie or salad, we’ll make room for it on the food tables.
