Bay Street Park
300 Bay Street, Osprey, United States
This exciting event is designed for kids and teens.
Participants will be treated to a walk through Bay Street Park in Osprey, FL. Bay Street Park is mostly wooded with a variety of resident and migrant birds drawn to the habitat. Especially of interest is the NW corner of the park hosting some of the largest trees in Sarasota County. Those trees draw in migrating birds to the canopy challenging birders to find the newest arrival. The trails are wide but the brush and forest is dense making for a wonderful location to hone your birding skills. Hearing the unseen bird is nearly as important as viewing it in this park. Water and restrooms are available. Be sure to bring your cameras and binoculars!
The walk will be guided by Tom Litteral, a former park ranger. He is a professional bird guide with many years of field experience including 4 breeding bird atlas projects. He is actively leading local bird walks, has completed research projects such as seasonal breeding bird surveys at the Venice Rookery, and is an accomplished bird photographer. Tom is currently a technical advisor to the Jim Neville Marine Preserve Bird Monitoring Project, a student led Sarasota Bay Watch project.
We will meet at the Bay Street Park parking lot at 8:30 am.
