About the event

Aid, Return and Repatriation: Norway, EU and Afrika
The Norwegian Council for Africa has the pleasure of inviting you to a seminar in collaboration with the Institute for Social Research, where we dive into the theme of return and repatriation of African irregular migrants. What is the relationship between Norway, the EU, and Africa in this context? What norms emerge and are present in these processes? What is the role of aid and migration policy in this setting? Is it possible to balance rights, norms, and politics? 🤔

The event will start with a presentation from Erlend Paasche, researcher II at the Institute for Social Research and research leader of the project “Deporting Foreigners: Contested Norms in International Practice (NORMS)”. He will share findings and lessons learned from this interesting project. Read more about the project here: https://www.samfunnsforskning.no/english/projects/aktive/norms/index.html 🔍

After the presentation, we will open up for a panel discussion with different actors who will shed light on the topic from different perspectives. We want to create a dialogue on how to balance rights, norms, and politics in this context, including how host states and countries of origin relate to the return of irregular migrants. We look forward to gaining insight into a nuanced and informative conversation about intersecting considerations among different stakeholders! 💬

NOTE! Feel free to stay after the end of the event, as another migration-themed event will be held titled “Dangerous Men? Challenging the Narratives of African Masculinity in Migration” ( https://fb.me/e/37zmtJ7X6) after a break with food served. 🌟
