Velkommen til African Cabaret, en ny serie på Melahuset der Sidiki Camara med gjester bruker musikk og historiefortelling for å gjøre publikum kjent med flere av de intrikate aspektene ved mange av de afrikanske kulturene.
Onsdag 18. juni har Sidiki Camara med seg Rob Waring på balafon.

Musikken på African Cabaret er inspirert av eldre musikktradisjoner fra Mali, Sidiki Camaras hjemland, og da særlig musikken som spilles under tradisjonelle seremonier som dåp, bryllup, andre overgangsritualer, og ved muntlige fortellinger. Den er først og fremst komponert for tradisjonelle instrumenter som balafon, djembe, trommer, kalebass og strykeinstrumentet n`goni og i kombinasjon med saksofon, gitar, vibrafon, bass og vokal.
Historiefortellingen er også av stor betydning for mange afrikanske communities og bidrar til alt fra bevaring av historier til å lære om normer og verdier.

Welcome to African Cabaret, a new series at Melahuset where Sidiki Camara and guests use music and storytelling to introduce the audience to several of the intricate aspects of African culture.
This Wednesday Rob Waring joins Sidiki Camara on balfon.

The music is deeply inspired by older music traditions from Mali. Camara´s homeland, especially those performed and used in musical traditional ceremonies like baptism, weddings and history telling and other rites of passage. The music is mainly composed for traditional instruments such as balafon, djembe, talking drums, calabash and string instruments n`goni in combination with saxophone, guitar, vibraphone, bass and vocal.
Storytelling has always been an important aspect in many African communities as its serve’s different functions from the preservation of history to the teaching of morals. Through this experience participants will get to understand an intricate aspect of many African cultures.
