UKS har gleden av å presentere Yu Shuk Pui Bobby sin første store institusjonelle separatutstilling. Hemoroidene vi bærer på utforsker kroppens skjulte fortellinger og nedarvede ubehag, og hvordan vi behandler personlig og kollektiv smerte gjennom humor, historiefortelling og felles opplevelser.
I hjertet av utstillingen er en dokumentarisk situasjonskomedie som gjenskaper Yu-familiens felles erfaring med hemoroider og deres reise mot helbredelse. Videoverket er filmatisert i Hong Kong gjennom en metode inspirert av playback-teater som rekonstruerer familiesamtaler og medisinske møter gjennom improvisasjon, humor og dramatiserte gjenfortellinger. Filmen tilbyr en intim og absurd refleksjon over hvordan helse former familiedynamikk og hvordan kroppslige erfaringer ikke bare arves genetisk, men også kulturelt og emosjonelt.
Hemoroidene vi bærer på forvandler en personlig medisinsk historie til en felles handling av gjenfortelling og ny forståelse. Det er en utstilling om tingene vi arver: historiene vi forteller, kroppene vi lever i og den stille hviskingen fra magefølelsen som styrer oss gjennom smerte, identitet og helbredelse.

Yu Shuk Pui Bobby er en billedkunstner og filmskaper basert i Hong Kong og Oslo. Gjennom video, tekst, installasjon, skulptur og performance utforsker hun kroppslig autonomi, generasjonstraumer og identitet. De siste årene har hun arbeidet med forskjellige fellesskaper omkring videoproduksjon og utforsket identitetskonstruksjoner innenfor ulike kulturelle kontekster – alltid med et innslag av humor og surrealisme.

EXHIBITION OPENING: The Piles We Carry
UKS is pleased to announce the first large-scale institutional solo exhibition by Yu Shuk Pui Bobby. The Piles We Carry is an exploration of the body’s hidden narratives and inherited discomforts, and the ways we process personal and collective pain through humour, storytelling and shared experience.
At the heart of the exhibition is a situational comedy documentary that reenacts the Yu family’s collective experience with haemorrhoids and their journey towards healing. Filmed in Hong Kong using a playback theatre approach, the film reconstructs family conversations and medical encounters through improvisation, humour and dramatised retellings. It offers an intimate yet absurd reflection on how health conditions shape family dynamics and how bodily experiences are inherited not just genetically, but also culturally and emotionally.
The Piles We Carry transforms personal medical history into a communal act of reimagining and retelling. It is an exhibition about the things we inherit: the stories we tell, the bodies we live in, and the quiet whispers inside us that shape how we navigate pain, identity and healing.

Yu Shuk Pui Bobby is a visual artist and filmmaker based in Hong Kong and Oslo. Using video, text, installation, sculpture and performance she explores bodily autonomy, generational trauma and identity. In recent years, she has worked with different communities in video-making to explore identity construction within various cultural contexts – always with an element of humour and surrealism.
