💃 What’s the difference between Swing, Jitterbug, and Lindy Hop?

These three styles are all part of the Swing dance family, born from the big band era of the 1920s–1940s. They’re upbeat, joyful, and perfect for social dancing!

🔹 Swing

"Swing" is the umbrella term for a group of dances that developed alongside jazz music. It includes styles like Lindy Hop, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Jitterbug, and more. Swing dancing is all about rhythm, connection, and fun footwork—with an emphasis on improvisation and playful movement.

🔹 Jitterbug

Jitterbug is a simplified, high-energy version of swing that became especially popular in the 1940s. It’s often used interchangeably with East Coast Swing, and it features basic turns, rock steps, and triple steps. If you’ve never danced before, this is a great style to start with!

🔹 Lindy Hop

Lindy Hop is the original swing dance, developed in Harlem in the late 1920s. It blends jazz, tap, breakaway, and Charleston, and is known for its athletic style and iconic swing-out move. It's super musical and expressive, often danced to fast-paced jazz. This is the style that started it all!
