Hello everyone!
I'm putting on a free concert at Brigham Larson Pianos on Saturday, March 7th at 4:00 PM. I'd love it if you all would come. Kids are welcome! Don't worry about dressing up either, just come as you are.
I'll be playing some great music that I grew up listening to. The first is a Sonata by a Russian composer named Alexander Scriabin. His writing is very vivid, and he has an extraordinary ability to depict non-musical phenomena with his music. This particular sonata is comprised of two pieces; the first is about a night on a "Southern seashore," and is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. The second depicts a tumultuous storm.
The next is a collection called "Pictures at an Exhibition." It's also written by a Russian composer named "Modeste Mussorgsky," and lasts about 30 minutes. These are a collection of pieces written in honor of a painter friend of his named Viktor Hartmann who had recently passed away. It is a set of musical depictions of several sketches/paintings that Hartmann did. This collection is one of the funnest sets of pieces I know of! The order goes like this:
1. Promenade (Depicts the composer himself entering the exhibition and also walking between different pictures)
2. Gnomus (A gnome with wobbly legs)
3. Promenade
4. The old castle
5. Promenade
6. Tuilieres (Children at play in a garden)
7. Bydlo (Oxen pulling a cart)
8. Promenade
9. Ballet of the unhatched chicks in their shells
10. Samuel Goldenberg and Schmyule (Two Jews: one rich, the other poor)
11. Promenade
12. The marketplace at Limoges
13. Catacombs
14. Cum mortis in lingua mortua (With the dead in a dead language)
15. Baba Yaga
16. The great gate at Kiev
