Expert in the Library - Exploring AI with Amanda Narvali

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)? Why are tech companies building it? What are the hopes people have for what this technology can accomplish? And how does AI perpetuate gender inequality? Many businesses, governments, and everyday citizens incorporate AI into various aspects of their work today. This presentation explores the risks and benefits of AI technology from the perspective of a researcher in Ethics and Feminist Philosophy.

Amanda Narvali is currently working towards her Doctorate of Philosophy at the University of Guelph. Her doctoral research is focused on the "Gendered Harms of Artificial Intelligence." Her work illuminates the harms of AI-generated pornography, the risks and benefits of data-based approaches to health and examines the promise of AI as a technology that can realize personalized medicine. Her philosophical interests include AI Ethics, Feminist Philosophy, Clinical Ethics, and Bioethics. Amanda holds an MA in Philosophy from Western University and a BA in Philosophy and Creative Writing from the University of Guelph.
