Workshop Flow:
Welcome & Framing
Begin with a brief introduction to neurodiversity in the workplace. Highlight common challenges faced by neurodiverse individuals in hiring onboarding and performance management. Introduce the design thinking mindset—empathy experimentation and iteration—and its relevance to HR.
Empathy Exercise
Participants explore short personas representing neurodiverse employees (e.g. an autistic developer a dyslexic designer an ADHD project manager). In small groups they discuss what barriers these individuals might face in typical HR processes and workplace culture.
Define the Challenge
Groups identify key pain points and reframe them into “How Might We…” questions. For example:
How might we make onboarding more accessible for someone with sensory sensitivities?
How might we redesign performance reviews to support different communication styles?
Ideate & Prototype
Participants brainstorm inclusive solutions—no idea is too small or too bold. Then each group selects one idea and quickly sketches or describes a prototype. Examples might include:
A visual onboarding guide
A flexible interview format
A feedback tool with multiple input options (written audio visual)
Share & Reflect
Groups present their prototypes and receive feedback using the “I like / I wish / What if…” format. Encourage reflection on how these ideas could be tested or adapted in real HR settings.
Wrap-Up & Next Steps
Close with a call to action: pilot one inclusive idea in your HR practice. Share resources for further learning and invite participants to continue the conversation beyond the workshop.
