The Onawa Aquatic Center will host a pooch paddle on Sunday, September 7 from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m., for small pooches and 1:00p.m. to 2:00 p.m., for large pooches. We ask that small pooches are at your knee height or shorter and weigh less than 40 lbs. The cost is only $5 per dog and all the money raised goes back to animal control in Onawa.
City staff would like to remind citizens that Pooch Paddle events are only allowed in public pool after they have closed for the season. Chemicals remain in the pool to keep it sanitized and safe for our furry users. The Onawa Aquatic Center is then drained shortly after the event.
All dogs must arrive on a leash and accompany an owner that is 14 years of age or older. All dogs must have evidence of currents vaccinations including rabies. All pet owners must comply with City rules and regulations relating to disposal of animal droppings. Owners may have only one dog at a time at the pool. Owners must keep their dog under their control at all times.
No animal deemed as “dangerous or vicious” as defined in Chapter 55 (55.19 and 55.20) shall be allowed to enter the pool.
For more information call the pool manager at 712-433-1597 or city hall at 433-1181.
