Opera Omaha’s annual kick-off to the season returns. Spread your picnic blanket, kick off your shoes, and relax as the songs of birds and opera intertwine. This FREE, family-friendly concert, which has become a community favorite, is held at Midtown Crossing’s Turner Park and includes some of opera’s greatest hits.

Opera Outdoors will feature live performances by special guests Meghan Kasanders, Taylor Raven, Edward Graves, Hayden Samuel Smith, and the Opera Omaha Chorus, comprised of local artists. Opera Outdoors will be conducted by Opera Omaha’s Head of Music, Josh Quinn and directed by Kayley Karis Smith with lighting by Aaron Craig, and will be hosted by KVNO personalities Gabriel Escalera and Alison Jay.
Before the concert begins groups from Ollie Webb Center Inc. Art of Imagination, the Gotta Be Me Heartlight Choir, and the Intercultural Senior Center will perform as opening acts beginning at 7:00 PM.
The opera program will include selections composed by opera greats Rossini, Bernstein, Puccini as well as others and features many familiar and new songs from the opera canon.
Lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments are encouraged. A rain date of Saturday, September 6 is also scheduled.
Opera Omaha’s free live outdoor concerts are part of Opera Omaha’s mission to share opera with the broader community and make its events accessible and welcoming. They have drawn more than 15,000 people of all ages since 2013.
