Estate planning is for everybody, no matter how old you are or how much money you have. If you have a bank account, a beloved pet, partner(s), or even just strong opinions about who shouldn't be in charge if something happens to you, then you'll want to have a plan.
Join attorney Susan Kirkpatrick to learn what estate planning actually is, why it matters at every age, and how to ensure that your wishes are honored and your loved ones are protected. In this practical and inclusive workshop, you’ll gain a clear understanding of legal planning to help avoid confusion, minimize family conflict, and provide peace of mind.
In this session, we'll cover:
• The essential role of wills and powers of attorney (even if you don't have children, aren't legally married, don't own a home, or don't have savings)
• How to ensure your partner or chosen family has legal standing to make decisions on your behalf when you're unable to do so
• How to name a legal guardian for your children (if applicable)
• Documenting your personal wishes for meaningful items like journals, photos, art, or family keepsakes
A presentation will be followed by a Q&A, so bring your questions for our expert speaker. While this session is focused on the LGBTQ+ community, allies are also welcome.
