To slow stitch is to take time to mindfully create something new through stitching with needle and thread. It’s also a great way to use up bits and pieces of fabric, loose buttons, short pieces of trim, and other collage elements to create a piece that reflects your thoughts, feelings, or ideas right now. In class, your piece will be constructed using our simple, open-ended instructions and some provided materials.
What to Bring:
Bring something from home that will personalize your class creation. Ideas include: approx. 2-inch square-ish piece of cloth, old patch, button, badge, an ice cream tester spoon (my personal favorite), or even a paper item like a postage stamp or photo that you’re willing to stitch. Basically, anything you can attach to cloth with stitches will serve to make your piece unique. We have items for purchase in the shop if you can’t find something at home (or forget).
Materials we provide from the Lost and Found stash:
• Prepared foundation fabric and batting
• Kit of fabric scraps, lace snippets, trims, buttons. Every kit is different – you choose your favorite.
• Scissors
• Needles and thread
You'll learn about threading your needle and knotting the end. We'll do a quick overview about shapes, colors, textures and design. You'll learn some basic embroidery stitches. After that, you'll compose your piece and start stitching! There will be lots of examples of completed pieces to give you some inspiration.
