Join us for our first salon of 5786, featuring Mae Kessler. Mae will be presenting "A History of Klezmer!" We’ll explore what we know about who was playing it, when it was played, traditional instrumentation, and how it has changed from the middle ages in Europe to the modern day. We’ll also delve into what the different types of tunes are and what they sound like. Join us for an evening of history, music and fun!
Mae Kessler has been performing in bands locally and internationally for over a decade. She plays violin with several klezmer ensembles including Tzepl, Varda, and a regional incarnation of Christina and the Zamlers. In partnership with Temple Beth Hatfiloh she was awarded a grant from the Yiddish Book Center's Yiddish Arts and Culture Initiative for Jewish Communities, and is part of their 2025--2026 cohort. She is passionate about increasing local and regional opportunities to learn, share, and celebrate Yiddish culture. Expect to see some programming in late March 2026 at TBH for klezmer music, dance and song!
