Costume Lead and Show Dressing Training :
Come along to understand what's involved
in volunteering for Costume Lead and Backstage Dresser
Monday 17th November 6pm
The costume group meet every Wednesday morning from 10am– 12pm in the Green Room where magic is woven; garments cleaned, mended, sized, stored and tidied away. The removing of the bar store has given us another, much needed dressing room, but also a laundry room which allows us to keep all costumes fresh and clean (forever in your debt, Chris Bannatyne).
We also lend out costumes to other theatre groups and there’s rarely a quiet morning without people either coming in with donations, returning items or looking for period costumes for their latest production.
It’s a drop in group, with members fitting sessions in around holidays and life in general. Everyone is welcome. During the panto run we’ll be found inhabiting Saddleworth’s many coffee shops, so too during the Summer break, so it’s not all stitching and steaming.
We’d love to expand the team to work on the Saddleworth Players shows as:
The costume lead, planning and sorting the costumes for a specific show, working with the director and cast. Taking a brief from the director as to the look and feel and planning what is needed and where throughout the show.
Backstage dressers during the week long run and technical week: helping the actors with quick changes, tricky fastenings and organising the clothing rails before, during and after the show.
We are running a training session giving a tour of the costume store and highlighting what is needed in each role. Both would suit someone who enjoys team work, loves theatre and, more specifically, garments.
It would be helpful if the dressers are handy with a needle and thread as running repairs are a given in most shows.
