Full Circle Bookstore, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Library System, is proud to present a free, one-of-a-kind community event that celebrates the single most impactful book to come out of Oklahoma while raising awareness about underserved youth in our cities and shrinking access to books and libraries.
For one night only, volunteers will take shifts reading aloud from S. E. Hinton's classic coming-of-age novel, The Outsiders, as a crowd silently reads along. The group will prominently include public figures, educators, librarians, and social workers. All ages are welcome and everyone is encouraged to volunteer to read no matter their background or public speaking experience.
Reading will commence at 6 p.m. and conclude once the last sentence has been uttered (we estimate this will occur before midnight). Volunteers will read 3-4 pages at a time. Attendees will be free to move about the bookstore as they wish, but there will be an intermission for those who want to use the restrooms or purchase beverages or snacks without missing any part of the reading.
The profits from all copies of The Outsiders sold during the event will go toward the Library Endowment Trust. For those curious about what can be done to assist at-risk youth, there will be literature and resources provided by the many charitable organizations doing good work in our state.
If you are interested in reading aloud at the event or you are associated with a non-profit organization that would like to partner with us, send an email with the phrase "reading marathon" in the subject line to Steven at
