Carpenter Square Theatre’s Season 41 concludes with “She Kills Monsters,” a comedy-drama that turns into a fantasy adventure. Qui Nguyen’s fun, but meaningful, story about an adult sister trying to connect with her younger sister performs July 11-27, 2025 at the theatre’s venue located at 1009 W. Reno in downtown Oklahoma City.
With ten performances scheduled over three weeks, specific dates and times are:
8 p.m. Fridays -Saturdays, July 11-12, 18-19, 25-26; 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, July 17 and 24; and 2 p.m. Sundays, July 20 and 28.
“She Kills Monsters” tells the story of Agnes Evans, a young high school teacher in Ohio, following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. While packing up the sister’s bedroom, Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, and soon finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all.
Isaiah Williams directs the adventure with many of the actors making their Carpenter Square debut. Alix Golden heads the cast as Agnes with Kaylan Ferrell as her younger sister Tilly. The ensemble is complete with Rainey Denison, Peter Fischaber, Jordan Kosanke, Max Mauer, Grace Parker, Samantha Parker, Alex Sena, Andrew Smith, and Elena Weinbender, with many doubling as creatures and monsters.
The production team includes stage manager Sydney Bruner, directing assistant Jae Anifowose, and crew member Miranda LoPresti. Set design is by Ben Hall, the light design is by Jamison Rhoads, and sound design is by Nick Solomon. Costumes are by Elin Bhaird, and props are by Rhonda Clark. McKenzie Tipton serves as choreographer with Reagan Townley as the fight choreographer. The intimacy coordinator is Ariel Celeste.
The theater is pleased to exhibit the artwork of Nicole Moan in the Tannenbaum Gallery during the play's run. Her colorful artwork includes paintings and three-dimensional ceramic wall hangings.
The production is supported in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council, National Endowment for the Arts, Inasmuch Foundation, Kirkpatrick Family Fund, and Allied Arts. Other supporters are Mel and Cindy Ables, and Jacob and Jessica Jean.
Individual adult tickets are $30 with $25 tickets available for seniors aged 62 or older, military, and groups of ten or more. Educator tickets are $15 and students are only $10. $15 adult tickets may be purchased when presenting the Allied Arts OKCityCard or when attending Thursday evening performances. Reservations are highly recommended for the intimate theater.
