May is Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) National Heritage Month. To celebrate their contributions to Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Historical Society Multicultural Office organized “AAPI Collective History Day,”
This event will be an evening of reflection and celebration, bringing together Oklahomans interested in exploring our state's shared experiences of the AANHPI communities. It will feature a book signing, a panel discussion with authors and scholars specializing in the topic, and amazing cultural performances and interactive activities.
It will take place at the Oklahoma History Center on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 5-8 p.m.
♦ Steve Le (Vietnamese-American) and Talia J. Tasi (Hawaiian-Samoan-Comanche-Osage) will be the event’s emcees.
♦ Michael Yebisu, Dr. Nyla Ali Khan, Dr. Imad Enchassi, and Dr. David Prentice are the guest book authors and researchers.
♦ Arts performances presented by Dr. Wei Jia and pianist Nuoqi You from China, Hamed Erfani Music from Iran, and traditional Filipino and Hawaiian dances will be part of the program.
♦ A tea ceremony and authentic finger food tasting are available thanks to members of the participating AANHPI organizations.
Admission is free to the public, but registration is required for logistical purposes. Donations to support our history projects, community engagement events, exhibits, and more are welcomed.
