Dessert potluck, slides, and music for Victor Yemba and his thriving Slow Food gardens in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Methow Classroom in Bloom donated a large cache of seeds for Victor to take back to Africa. The result is a huge thriving garden that feeds many villagers and is the basis for a growing food secure economy. The Cacophony Chorus will provide music afterwards. Donations for Victor and the Grange gladly accepted.

Founded in 2014, Convivium Slow Food Kisangani is a non-profit organization located in the northeastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The organization is run by local groups of people who share common values around sustainable agriculture and unite around a specific goal, such as protecting and promoting food that meets the needs of communities. Convivium Slow Food Kisangani is made up of volunteers, including farmers, fishermen, consumers, chefs, schoolchildren, academics, and journalists. Agroecology is the beating heart of our gardens, and we ensure that our members who manage our gardens have information on how to make their own compost, multiply their seeds, enrich the soil, and preserve cultural species.
The resilience of our gardens increases through the support of the local community. Our agricultural products are sold by women who envision a food system based on the principles of quality and taste, sustainability, and environmental and social justice, reflecting the essence of a good, clean, and equitable food system that values agricultural producers.
Our members form a vibrant local network dedicated to promoting biodiversity, honoring traditional knowledge, and supporting small-scale agriculture in their communities. Our dynamism is a beacon of hope and action, aiming to establish numerous quality, clean, and equitable food gardens in our communities. Our gardens serve as a living classroom for the younger generation, teaching them the importance of sustainability and nutrition and inspiring a cadre of leaders who recognize the value of their land and culture.
Our agricultural products cultivate a future where local food producers and informed consumers thrive together.
