The house concert will be preceded by workshops taught by Louisa (concertina) and Kira (Irish fiddle), from 3:30 - 5:00 PM

Originally from Utah, Louisa Bennion fell in with the wrong crowd and began playing Irish traditional music during her university years in Ithaca, New York. She studied concertina with Noel Hill, Micheál O Raghallaigh, Tim Collins, and Michael Rooney, and during the years she spent living in New York City she learned from the wealth of Irish musicians who live in and pass through that great crossroads. She was particularly influenced by Patrick Ourceau and the other regulars at the Mona's session, who were in turn drawing on the strong presence in New York of an older generation of musician immigrants from Clare and East Galway. For the past 15 years Louisa has lived in rural France, where she is a regular teacher at the CeltiCimes festival in the Alps and plays in duo with piper Loïc Bléjean. Returning regularly to New York, she remains an integrated part of the session circuit there as well.
Kira Ott is a fiddler from Los Angeles and has been very active on the LA Irish music scene for many years. As a child she studied classical viola but left that behind to play Irish music as a teenager. After spending many winters traveling to Donegal to learn at the Frankie Kennedy Winter School, she dedicated a few summers to festival-hopping along the west coast of Ireland, learning and playing with many of the greats. She has performed and toured with numerous bands and teaches in Los Angeles.
