Did you know whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River as we know it today, came about due to a rock slide in 1976 that damaged the flume line? In September 1976 water was allowed to flow freely down the riverbed for the first time since the early 1900s. Folks showed up with army surplus rafts to run the 5 miles of whitewater rapids resulting from the flume damage. Rafting companies began to spring up while TVA worked to repair the flume in order to again divert water from the river to the hydroelectric plant to turn the turbines.
Thankfully, Tennessee Valley Authority, the outfitters, and Congress were able to develop an agreement to provide 116 days of recreational water release per year and the whitewater rafting industry in Ocoee Country was born!
It's not too early to start booking those rafting trips!
Here is some information on rafting in May.
May 4th 2025 2pm, meet at 1pm!
1) only the half day is available on the 4th.
2) there full day adventures start in June and is $120.
3) price for the half day is $45 through Adventures Unlimited
4) price is $35.10 right now on Groupon (it will go to up to $39 tomorrow or the day after).
5) does everyone want to purchase their own tickets (it'll prompt you to make the reservation when you purchase)?
6) after you purchase the Groupon you'll need to go to Adventures Unlimited website to make the reservations (May 4th 2pm).
There will be a fee there with the company to make the reservations ($13.69).
This way I don't have to worry about a head count, people canceling, and people wanting to join last minute.

2) who is thinking about staying the night before (Saturday) and/or the night of (Sunday)?
I am off work that Monday and I am entertaining the idea of staying both nights.
I have found an Airbnb; entire house, 5 beds, 2 bath, backyard, fireplace, grill, pool table, ping pong table, and a hot tub!
The house allows nine guests I am hoping to get at least six people to divide the cost. Four people would be $95 per person, per night.
