Session 2: Explore the essential building blocks of drawing: line, shape, and texture, which serve as the foundation for all visual art. In this session, you will:
Experiment with Line Weight and Variety: Learn how to use lines not just for outlining but to convey energy, depth, and emotion. From bold, heavy strokes to delicate, thin lines, discover how varying line weight can create dynamic compositions and direct the viewer's eye.
Understand the Power of Shape: Shapes are the backbone of any drawing. By breaking complex subjects into simple geometric and organic shapes, you’ll develop a strong sense of structure and proportion. Practice using shapes to sketch preliminary outlines and as a tool for visual organization.
Develop Realistic and Expressive Textures: Texture adds life and interest to your drawings, whether you’re mimicking the soft fur of an animal, the rough bark of a tree, or the smooth surface of glass. You’ll explore techniques like hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling to create visual and tactile effects.
Introduce Color with Confidence: Enhance your drawings with colored pencils, exploring layering and blending techniques to bring depth, vibrancy, and a new dimension of expression to your work.
Embark on a creative journey with our 6-month drawing series, "The Art of Starting: Intro to Drawing." Designed for both beginners and intermediate artists, this program is perfect for anyone looking to deepen their drawing skills, explore new techniques, and build a strong artistic foundation. Drawing is essential to all art forms and is a prerequisite for painting. While attending all six classes is encouraged to fully experience the course, missing one or two sessions won’t significantly impact your progress. Each class is structured to teach a unique aspect of drawing, allowing you to benefit from the sessions you can attend.

This series is ideal for beginners starting their artistic journey and intermediate artists looking to refine their techniques or fill in gaps in their knowledge.
