The Snapper & Crab Fishing Derby is held to encourage children to discover and enjoy fishing and crabbing. Children 16 year old and younger are welcome to participate. The tournament is free; however, the standard $8 vehicle use parking fee will be in effect. ( No additional fee if you have an Empire State Parking Pass)
There are numberous fishing locations throughout Captree State Park. Participants are welcome to buy, rent or bring their own equipment. The shop will be open for sales and rentals from 6:00am - 7:00pm each day of the tournament.
First Weigh In 10am. The last weigh in will take place at 2:00pm. Both the snappers and crabs will be weighed alive and live release is encouraged.
Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third heaviest fish in each age category (7 years & younger, 8-12 years old and 13-16 years old) and to the top three heaviest crabs overall, both Saturday and Sunday.
During the ceremony, which will begin at 2:30pm, Winners must be present to receive their prize.
