Unfolding

Join us at the Spring Queer Arts Festival (SQAF), presented by Queer Cultural Center (QCC), for Unfolding—a transformative sound and poetry experience curated by Lyn Patterson (@poetryntings). A storyteller, visual artist, and educator based in Oakland, Lyn’s poetry bridges ancestral stories with pleasure to create spaces for healing. Joining Lyn is lowkii ri (@lowkiiri), a multidisciplinary artist, producer, and sound engineer whose immersive sonic work explores connection, healing, and the depths of the human experience.

Unfolding is a meditative journey through poetry, sound design, and storytelling—a soft unraveling, a sacred pause for unfurling. This immersive sound experience invites participants into a space where stillness meets surrender, and sensuality meets solitude, all while being gently witnessed in community. Through layered soundscapes, natural elements, and guided poetic narrative, Unfolding honors the richness of Black queer love and the quiet power of choosing to be seen—and held. It is a sensual, intentional offering that speaks to the moment just before connection, the electricity of being met, and the courage it takes to soften. Come as you are, bring your breath, your body, your longing—and step into a space that invites you to listen willingly, to open tenderly, and to softly, trust the unfolding.

Oakstop – Gaines Gallery Suite (1740 Telegraph Ave) is a beautiful, ADA-accessible gallery and event space perfect for gatherings, featuring plenty of natural light and access to an adjoining rooftop deck. Conveniently located near the 19th St. Oakland BART station and AC Transit bus lines.

ASL interpreters will be available for the 6-7 PM time slot. Masks are mandatory and will be provided at the door.
