Norma Wong Book Reading and Conversation

The East Bay Meditation Center is very pleased to host author Norma Wong Roshi, in coordination with Collective Acceleration, for a conversation about her book . The world is experiencing a phenomenon in which many things are moving at an accelerated pace. One pattern of acceleration is that of collapse, deconstruction, and destruction. It does seem as though we are living, daily, the experience of When No Thing Works. We are and can be the peoples who generate a thriving future - with more collective purpose and humanity.

While there is no joy in the chaos or the suffering, there does remain opportunity.

This event will be in-person. Space is limited to the first 200 people who register. People of all ages and abilities are absolutely welcomed. Donations for the event are welcomed even if you’re unable to attend. Any proceeds will be split between the East Bay Meditation Center and Collective Acceleration.

We know in our bones that this is a time that is calling for something different from each of us. Please join us in community for an evening at the intersections of spirit, purpose, and strategy.

This timely event is also a fundraiser for the crucial work of the East Bay Meditation Center (EBMC) and Collective Acceleration (CA) and we invite you to give generously to support these important community institutions.

EBMC has been a refuge, a spiritual home, and a mindfulness and meditation training center in downtown Oakland serving people of color, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people living with disabilities, social justice activists and the general community for almost 20 years. Founded in a celebration of diversity and equity, EBMC has been described as a beacon of light around the world for organizations committed to radical inclusivity and the intersections of activism and contemplative practice.

Collective Acceleration both refers to a phenomenon and a community of practice. As the world experiences an era of unprecedented change, we are called upon to engage in purposeful action. We have the opportunity to deepen the skills, practices, and relationships needed to pivot our culture, governance, and systems towards collective thriving. The Collective Acceleration learning community explores what is necessary to proactively move from patterns of conflict and collapse, to practices of interdependence and possibility. Collective Acceleration creates the conditions for the kind of evolution that resets who we need to be.

At EBMC we rely on a generosity-based model of financial sustainability called Gift Economics. This means that there is no set fee for any of our offerings, and everyone is invited to give at the highest level they can for the benefit of all. Through this practice we are encouraged to shift our relationship to money and to capitalism and to invite equity and radical inclusivity into our process of healing and spiritual liberation.
