Step deeper into the world of Sashiko with this advanced, hands-on workshop focused on the Japanese art of visible mending. Led by embroidery artist and denim expert Sam of MiraFlores Studios, this class is designed for those familiar with hand stitching who want to refine their technique and explore more intricate Sashiko-style patterns.

Whether you’re repairing a beloved pair of jeans or creating a patch that’s more art than mend, you’ll learn how to blend form and function through elevated stitching styles. We’ll cover advanced techniques in reinforcement, layering, and decorative composition—giving you the tools to personalize your denim with meaning, care, and detail.

• A take-home handbook featuring advanced patterns + inspiration

• Light snacks and a cozy studio setting to stitch in

Please bring a denim garment you’d like to work on (or start on provided practice swatches). Some stitching experience is recommended for this class.

Meet Your Instructor: Sam of MiraFlores Studios

Born in Miraflores, Lima and rooted in the Bay for the last 14 years, Sam is a denim tailor, embroidery artist, and the founder of MiraFlores Studios. After earning her degree in fashion design, she spent years as a lead tailor and chainstitch artist at Levi’s before launching her own brand, Sweet Chainstitch.

Since 2021, she’s grown MiraFlores into a community-focused studio where vintage denim meets handmade magic. With 8+ years of experience in sashiko and denim repair, Sam brings expert technique and heartfelt creativity to each class. Her workshops are rooted in intention, community, and craft—and she’s excited to guide you through this next level of visible mending.
