Join us on Sunday, June 1st, for an exciting opportunity at the City of Norwich Aviation Museum! Step inside the cockpit of our English Electric Lightning and let our knowledgeable Lightning Crew Chiefs, Dave and Mike, guide you through the intriguing systems of this incredible aircraft.
The English Electric Lightning is a British fighter aircraft designed as an interceptor to protect British V-bomber airfields from expected attacks by nuclear-armed supersonic Soviet bombers. It was in service from the 1960s until the late 1980s with the Royal Air Force (RAF), the Kuwait Air Force (KAF), and the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF). The Lightning could reach speeds exceeding Mach 2 and boasted an exceptional climb rate and operational ceiling. Pilots have described flying it as "being strapped to a skyrocket."
To help maintain this iconic aircraft, we request a small donation to sit in the Lightning's cockpit. This donation is in addition to the regular museum entrance fees.
The City of Norwich Aviation Museum celebrates our rich aviation history while inspiring the next generation of pilots! With captivating exhibits and interactive activities, it offers an excellent resource for anyone who dreams of taking to the skies.
The Museum is on Norwich Airport’s north side, alongside the Broadland Northway. Access is from the village of Horsham St. Faith via Old Norwich Road, Horsham St. Faith, Norwich NR10 3JF.
