What is Blues Dancing?
Blues dancing is a family of African-American social dances that grew alongside the music itself. Rooted in Black history and culture, Blues dance is as diverse as the music — sometimes playful and upbeat, sometimes smooth and soulful, sometimes intimate and expressive. It can be danced fast or slow, solo or partnered, on big stages or in living rooms.
At its core, Blues dancing is about rhythm, groove, and connection — to yourself, your partner, the community, and the music. It is not limited to one style or mood; instead, it reflects the richness and variety of African-American cultural expression.
We welcome you to explore this tradition, celebrate its music and history, and find your own groove within it. Whether you’re new to dance or have years of experience, Blues offers a space for creativity, joy, and authentic connection.
