This month we are pleased to have Dr. Robert Onofre and Dr. Brandee Nelson from the Detroit Mercy Eye Institute, joining us to speak on the following topic:

About Your Speakers:
About Dr. Robert Onofre: Dr. Onofre currently serves as the founding clinic director for the Detroit Mercy Eye Institute. In this role, he provides supervisory oversight of all clinical operations.
Dr. Onofre received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Angelo State University in 2001. He completed his doctoral training at the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2005 and completed a Master’s in Healthcare Administration (MHA) program at Oklahoma State University in 2021. Dr. Onofre was awarded Suma Cum Laude Honors after completing each one of his degree programs. Additionally, he is one of only a handful of optometrists across the nation to have received a Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) awarded by the Health Care Compliance Association.
Prior to joining the Detroit Mercy Eye Institute, Dr. Onofre served as the director of Clinical Business Operations (DCBO) at the Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO) in San Antonio, Texas. Additionally, he served as the RSO chief of compliance, chief of risk management, and chief of quality assurance. Dr. Onofre was a member of the RSO Clinic Council and the Clinic Leadership Team. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Onofre had been the owner and president of three separate successful private practices.
About Dr. Brandee Nelson: Dr. Nelson was born and raised in New Baltimore, Michigan. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor in 2016. She then attended Indiana University School of Optometry where she graduated with honors in 2020. Following her time in optometry school, Dr. Nelson completed a one-year post graduate residency in pediatric optometry with an emphasis in vision therapy and vision rehabilitation at the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. After her residency, Dr. Nelson worked in private practice in North Carolina caring for both pediatric and adult patients. During this time Dr. Nelson had a special focus on double vision, traumatic brain injury and special needs populations. Dr. Nelson is committed to ensuring her patients have a positive and fun experience whatever their age and enjoys educating her patients on the importance of regular eye care.
