Jake Amy is a queer, non-binary powerhouse of Australia’s nu-jazz scene. Their sound synthesises up-tempo future-sonic jazz with hip-hop breakbeats, luscious synth harmonies, and Afro-Cuban grooves. A genre-smashing keyboardist, they’ve toured globally, supporting icons like Herbie Hancock, Chaka Khan and Thundercat. After their Amsterdam-label debut Yoofee on Wicked Wax, Jake returns with Astro Shooter, a song that drifts between the cosmic and the deeply personal. Tender and defiant, it speaks to queer love in the face of erasure, longing for connection beyond judgment, and the dream of escape into the unknown. With celestial lyricism—“The world forgets our eyes, it shadows those in-between”—Astro Shooter is both intimate confession and universal call, a meditation on identity, vulnerability, and resilience.
For Jake, music is both sonic liberation and social activism—driven by community, defiance of norms, and an audacious commitment to authenticity. Performing alongside Jake are some of Australia’s leading improvisers: drummer Jordan Pereira and bassist Stephen Lane.
Jake will be supported by two hand-selected Naarm-based acts who champion their community:
MzRizk is a Lebanese-Australian DJ who traverses house, disco, hip-hop, jazz, soul, and Arabic music. Renowned for her community-first ethos, she’s built a career amplifying marginalised voices, earning respect as one of Melbourne’s most versatile selectors and cultural visionaries. MzRizk is undoubtedly an unstoppable force that has left a permanent mark on Melbourne and the global music scene.
Alcides Neto is a Brazilian-born guitarist and percussionist whose music is rooted in the rich traditions of Brazilian culture and shaped by the experience of living far away from home. His performances blend tradition with experimentation, offering space for reflection, celebration and connection.
