Dedicated to Bebe and Louis Barron who created the soundtrack to the 1954 sci-fi classic “FORBIDDEN PLANET”and are credited with creating the first electronic music to be recorded in the USA.
Venus fly trap are a post punk/electronic duo from Northampton-UK comprising ALEX NOVAK-vox(ISAWS/RELIGIOUS OVERDOSE/TEMPEST/ATTRITION) and ANDY DENTON-vox/guitar/electronics,they formed in 1986.

“The venus fly trap have been gigging a lot recently and it has rendered the band a well-oiled machine, and one that is firing on all cylinders. Tonight is no exception and they hit the stage with all the confidence you’d expect from a band fast approaching their fortieth year. It is at their genesis where we begin with their debut single ‘Morph*ne’, a track that has lost none of its addictive quality and assiduously works its way to the centre of your cranium. Against a backdrop of retro sci-fi the band hit us with ‘Sabotage’ and the musical car crash that is ‘Gemini Lounge’. Moving with savage grace, vocalist Alex Novak sounds like the love child of Nico and Jim Morrison whilst guitarist Andy Denton delivers a succession of robotic, razor sharp riffs that turn ‘Mercury’ into a dangerous affair. It’s two covers that close the show, firstly Suicide’s ‘Rocket USA’ on which the band put their own stamp and then The Cramps’ ‘Human Fly’ which captures the crowd in its sticky jaws and ensures that all leave sated.”

We headed to the depths of Northampton, UK for a long and quite frankly overdue chat with The Venus Fly Trap founder Alex Novak, a man who has had his fingers in many a musical related project pie spanning the last 20 years. Very impressive! We talked to Alex about the history and birth of VFT, the writing collaborative process and why an endorsement from NASA would be welcomed.
Introduce the band in your own words.
“Venus Fly Trap based in Northampton-UK (famous for Bauhaus, Alan Moore and the film kinky Boots) situated between London and Birmingham, current line Up Alex Novak (Vox) and Andy Denton (Guitar & Programming).
VFT came together after I left Attrition who were based in London at the time, i had done an album and toured Holland with them, my first trip abroad with a band. Decided to move back to my native Northampton, hooked up with my brother John Novak (Isaws & Wheres Lisse) and Tony Booker an ex art school student (I had also had studied at art school). The line-up has changed many times. Andy Denton began as the drummer and later ended up playing guitar and he has done for many years.”
