About The Edison Herbert Trio

Edison Herbert - Guitar: Edison Herbert is a London-based guitarist, composer, arranger, and bandleader acclaimed for his warm, melodic style inspired by greats like Wes Montgomery and George Benson. A classically trained pianist at Yorkshire College of Music turned self‑taught guitarist, he earned a scholarship to study jazz guitar at The Guildhall School of Music & Drama and played with the Guildhall Big Band at Ronnie Scott’s, catching the eye of luminaries like Randy Brecker. Over the years, he’s released several well-received albums: My Favourite Tunes (2014), Time For Love (2021), More Beautiful Each Day (2023), and most recently All I Need (2024) - the last produced on his own and praised for its imaginative arrangements and melodic clarity. Besides his recording career, Edison has served as musical director and arranger for West End shows like 'Unforgettable', played guitar in productions including 'Get Up, Stand Up!', and appeared on Sky Arts’ 'Guitar Star', where George Benson himself complimented his tone and phrasing.

Martyn Spencer - Double Bass: Martin is a Nottingham-based double bassist and bandleader celebrated for his warm, swinging tone, and rhythmic finesse. A graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (2007), he has performed nationally and internationally alongside acclaimed pianists and drummers in dynamic trio settings. Leading projects such as 'Martyn Spencer’s Aces of Bass', he brings the double bass to the forefront, paying homage to jazz greats and pushing the instrument’s expressive possibilities. Equally in demand as a sideman, Martyn is known for his supportive groove and improvisational depth, making him a respected voice in the UK jazz scene.

Gary Williams - Drums: Gary began his musical journey in London in 1997 as a self-taught drummer, cultivating his style through influences like reggae, ska, soul, jazz-funk, and icons such as Desmond Dekker, Herbie Hancock, and the Jackson 5. He landed his first paid gig in 2001 as part of a trio with bassist Lance Rose - and he’s never looked back. Over the years, Gary has become a prominent figure on the London jazz and reggae scene. He’s performed alongside notable musicians, including ex-Tomorrow’s Warriors guitarist Alan Weekes and saxophonist Mussinghi Brian Edwards. For the past 10 years, Gary has been touring with The Errol Linton Blues Band.
