Leandro Oliveira is a Brazilian lifelong martial arts practitioner who has been involved with Brazilian JiuJitsu (BJJ) since 2016.
Rob Mokaraka (Ngāpuhi, Ngāi Tūhoe) is an advocate to mental well-being and blue-belt BJJ practitioner.
Together, they created Yruá*, a programme designed to introduce young people, aged 11-24, to the fundamental techniques, rich history, and philosophy of BJJ. The goal of the programme is to help build trust, safety, and confidence while nurturing their physical and emotional health ultimately enhancing self-belief, resilience, and self-esteem.
*Yruá is a Tupi Guarani word meaning the flowing water — a symbol of life’s constant motion, where strength, adaptability, and harmony become one.
