Class: Pottery Glaze Chemistry Basics - From Minerals to Masterpieces [North Little Rock]

In this lecture-style class, dive into the fascinating world of glaze chemistry, learning how different ingredients interact to create stunning surface effects.

Whether you're looking to better understand commercial glazes or mix your own from scratch, this class will give you the knowledge and confidence to experiment with color, texture, and layering.
We’ll start with the fundamentals of glaze calculation before exploring the safest and most effective ways to test both commercial and homemade glazes in our studio. You’ll learn about the essential components of glaze chemistry, including colorants, fluxes, and other key variables that affect the final result.

⚠️ This class is a requirement for any member wishing to use outside glazes in the studio.

🎨 Learning Objectives:

🎨 Explore colorants, fluxes, and other key glaze variables.
🔄 Master safe and effective techniques for layering and combining glazes.
🛠️ Develop skills in safe glaze testing methods.
✅ Pass the Glaze Chemistry Assessment at the Innovation Hub to use glazes independently in the studio.
