Blacksmiths Rob Scully and Wayne Schmidt are returning to Queensland Museum Rail Workshops to share their passion for working hot metal. This full-day workshop encourages you to stoke your creative fires and test your hand at artisanal blacksmithing.
See demonstrations and learn new skills in drawing, upsetting, squaring, rounding, riveting and barley twisting.
Participants will be shown how to make a French toasting fork, an elegant and useful project to learn these skills. At the end of the day you will take your bespoke creation home with you.
Bookings are essential and places are limited so be quick to book!
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Participants must be 16 years and over
No previous experience required
Bookings are non-refundable and non-transferable
Participants must declare any condition or injury that may impact their ability to safely participate in the workshop
Please arrive 10 minutes early
Please bring your own water bottle
Please wear appropriate clothing, including closed-in shoes, long sleeves and long pants

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTORS:
Rob Scully and Wayne Schmidt have been blacksmithing for more than 30 years between them, using traditional methods and techniques to create forged items for any time in history.
Based in Ipswich, they use historical equipment and authentic antique bellows or hand-cranks. Well-respected artists and blacksmiths, they have travelled across Queensland sharing their passions for the craft and teaching the heritage trade to a variety of audiences.
