Aeshlie Wheeler is a Casting Director and co-founder of Tas Casting, Tasmania’s leading casting agency for screen and television productions. After the retirement of the highly respected Jane Binning, whose pioneering work established professional casting in Tasmania, Aeshlie co-founded Tas Casting alongside actor and industry professional Lisa Gormley and other collaborators. Together, they built on Jane’s legacy to establish a dedicated casting service that has since become central to the state’s screen industry.
Over the years, Tas Casting has grown into the go-to casting service for Tasmanian productions, with Aeshlie at the helm for the past several years. She has cast hundreds of projects across feature films, television dramas, commercials, and local campaigns, connecting productions with skilled Tasmanian performers for both local and national projects.
Aeshlie also serves on the Executive Committee of the Casting Guild of Australia (CGA). This national role has been a turning point for Tasmania’s industry, enabling her to help bring the state’s acting sector into alignment with professional standards across the country. Over the last five-seven years, Tas Casting’s involvement with the Guild and other collaborators has strengthened industry networks and provided clear references for industry standards and guidelines not engaged prior for the industry in Tasmania.
Passionate about education and industry development, Aeshlie actively works to support not only actors but also emerging producers. She regularly shares guidance on industry rates, agreements, and on-set practices, ensuring productions in Tasmania meet the same professional standards upheld across Australia.
Known for her authentic, people-focused approach, Aeshlie has curated and maintained one of the state’s largest databases of performers – from first-time “street cast” locals to experienced actors – giving productions access to diverse and professional talent. She is also committed to supporting performers’ growth, with many of Tasmania’s working actors gaining their earliest on-set experiences through Tas Casting. As the sole director in recent years, Aeshlie has guided Tas Casting to become a cornerstone of Tasmania’s creative industries, building strong relationships with producers, directors, and agencies while continuing to champion local talent and contribute to the state’s growing screen sector.
