This outstanding Vermont chamber ensemble presents unaccompanied choral music about the “Gilded Age” of the robber barons. This 19th century era saw the peak of middle-class parlor pianos and vaudeville, with its tragic ballads, love lyrics, theater songs, and scenes of city life. Familiar melodies include Stephen Foster’s “Beautiful Dreamer,” “The Sidewalks of New York,” “Home Sweet Home,” and "You'll Have to Put a Nightie on Aphrodite."
Critics have praised Counterpoint's “clarity, skill” and “sophisticated musical expressiveness.” Directed by Nathanial Lew, Counterpoint was founded in 2000 by legendary Vermont conductor and arranger Robert De Cormier.
