Wheel Throwing 101

Curious about the pottery wheel? This beginner-friendly course is the perfect place to start. Over 8 weeks, students will learn the fundamentals of wheel-throwing, including centering clay, pulling walls, shaping forms, and trimming. We'll focus on making simple, functional pieces like cups, bowls, and small plates while building comfort and confidence on the wheel. This course features six instructor-led sessions with demonstrations, personalized feedback, and guided studio time, plus two independent open studio sessions where students can continue practicing and refining their skills at their own pace.
Skill Level: Beginner – No Experience Required
Age: 18+
Member Rate: $250
Non-Member Rate: $275
Material Fee: First 25lb bag of clay, glazes, and firings included!

About the Instructor
Alyssa Fuson is a long-time East Tennessee resident and an artist living and working out of Knoxville. She was introduced to pottery in high-school and her love of it only grew during her three years in UTK’s ceramics program. She loves being the studio coordinator at AACC and being able to support others in their ceramics journey.
