Beginning Weaving

This class is designed for beginners interested in gaining knowledge of the 4 shaft loom and weaving techniques. Students will learn the basics of weaving on a table loom, including designing a warp, dressing the loom, and weaving in plain weave and twill structures. Students will learn how to calculate yarn quantities and plan warp dimensions. This class is excellent preparation for students who wish to progress to a floor loom. Weaving homework is required.

Material Fee: $30-$32 depending on the colors of cotton chosen to work with. Paid directly to instructors.
About the Instructors:
Marie Clingan is a long-time member of the Tuesday Weavers. She started out on a Rigid Heddle loom and then chose to expand her skills and technique by using a floor loom. She has studied under Carol Pritcher, Director of the Weaving Department at AACC and other instructors. She is juried in the AACC as a weaver and her woven items can be viewed for sale in the shop. Members of Tuesday Weavers also participate in the Foothills Craft Guild show. Marie has taught Rigid Heddle loom weaving at Clinch River Yarn Company, the Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts Festival and Birchwood Fiber Festival.
Patty Benton has been weaving for 12 years. She has studied under Carol Pritcher, Director of the Weaving Department at AACC and other instructors. Patty has been a long-time vendor and instructor at the Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts Festival and she has also taught at Fiber in the Boro and the Birchwood Fiber Arts Festival. Patty is a juried member of the Townsend Artisan Guild and the Foothills Craft Guild in Fiber Arts. Members of Tuesday Weavers also participate in the Foothills Craft Guild show. Patty currently sells her weaving under the Creekside Farms Fiber Arts label. She has been a regular member of Tuesday Weavers since 2019.
