A reminder that the Build-a-Binder workshop is coming up next week!
CIDSO is sponsoring this event. Meet at Eastview Church in the Foundry (4th-5th grade area) on Thursday, July 10th from 5:30-7:00. We will have a light dinner and beverages and all materials needed for your binder. To help us make sure that we have enough for all, please respond here or via text (651-238-7399) or email (
dGVhbWhlZGljYW4gfCBjb21jYXN0ICEgbmV0). I will have some extras, but would love to know to expect you. Feel free to invite another special needs parent who would benefit from this information -- and include them in your RSVP, if so.
The Foundry is on the lower level of Eastview Church, last room on the right of the kids' hallway. We will post signs to help you find it!
A quick review of the workshop:
What is a Build-a-Binder Workshop? The Clinic Coordinator and a BCBA from GBC Autism Services will walk parents/guardians through the process of advocacy and initiating services for their child. They will discuss each section of the binder -- diagnosis, early intervention, setting up services, IEPs, etc. -- and help you set up an organized binder that you can take with you to appointments and meetings. Their goal is to help families feel less intimidated and overwhelmed by the process, gain knowledge about services available in the community, and teach you how to advocate effectively. Although GBC provides services to individuals with autism, this binder is a tool any parent or guardian of a child with special needs can use.
