This event focuses on designing safer spaces through behavioral and psychological nudges, instead of hostile architecture, increased law enforcement or penalization. Based on interdisciplinary research and case studies, Charles Brown, will delve into discussions about building safer spaces with care, in a way that is equitable, fair, and effective. The day will also include an interactive walk audit of the campus, involving participants in exploring how their surroundings can be adapted for increased safety. Brown is the CEO and founder of Equitable Cities, a research, policy, and planning firm that works to center people in planning efforts across the nation. This event is made possible through the collaboration of the PATHS network, which brings together the Virginia Department of Health, Department of Transportation, and other government agencies to foster increased collaboration in the state on topics of relevance to all parties.
