About the event

Bob Sedergreen and Friends: Live at The Count’s
Returning to The Count’s is iconic Melbourne jazz pianist, author, and educator Bob Sedergreen. His impact, influence and meaningful contribution to Australian music are undeniably significant. For over half a century, he has led bands and collaborated with artists such as Jimmy Witherspoon, Nat Adderley, Dizzy Gillespie, Milt Jackson, Brian Brown, Allan Browne, and Don Burrows (AO). For this special show at The Count’s, Bob unites with vocalists and songwriters Carl Pannuzzo and Kerri Simpson.

Award-winning Bob Sedergreen has an incredible legacy as a composer and jazz artist.

He has toured extensively in Australia and internationally, including appearances at jazz festivals in Montreal, Malaysia, and Scandinavia. He served as Artistic Director of the Montsalvat International Jazz Festival and was awarded the Ken Myers Medallion for Contributions to the Arts by the Victorian Arts Centre — the first musician to receive the honour.

Carl Pannuzzo is the inimitable frontman of premier blues band Checkerboard Lounge. A vocalist, songwriter, educator, and multi-instrumentalist, he plays piano, drums, guitar, bass, harmonica, accordion and ukulele. He has worked with artists such as Mia Dyson, Paul Grabowsky, Vika and Linda Bull, Shane Howard, Sydney Children’s Festival, Casey Bennetto, Kavisha Mazzella, Cirque du Soleil, Fred Smith, WienXtra, Tripod, The Boîte, Jane Bodie, Stephen Taberner and George Nussbaumer.

“When he sings – he invests himself in every line, his voice moving freely and almost unconsciously as it forms unusual shapes and textures… [a] vocalist who can swoop around the melody like a horn player.” – Jessica Nicholas, The Age

Few singers have so successfully traversed musical genres as Kerri Simpson. Dubbed “Australia’s own blues diva” (Sydney Morning Herald), she was inducted into the Blues Music Victoria Hall of Fame in 2024. The ARIA-nominated artist has supported acts such as Dr John, Kylie, and Keb’ Mo’, and collaborated with David Bridie, Allison Ferrier, Jeff Lang and Geoff Achison.

In 1999, she was invited to perform with Norman and Rickie Caesar, and Jason and Aaron Neville Jr. at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, becoming one of the few Australians – and the first Australian woman – to perform at the prestigious event.

“Australia’s queen of blues.” – The Age

Make a meal of it! The music gets underway at 7.30pm, but arrive a bit earlier if you can. From 6.30pm, enjoy pre-show dinner and drinks at The Count’s Italian-style kitchen and bar.
