About this Event

This event is free and open to the public. Advance registration and parental permission is required via naacpbucks.org.

After the overwhelming success of our first session, we are proud to bring the back to the Bucks County community. This is a free event designed to equip parents, students, and advocates with the knowledge and tools they need to effectively advocate for children in schools.

This powerful event is being presented by the Bucks County Chapter of the NAACP in partnership with the Legal Kid Foundation and the Education Law Center of Pennsylvania.

The workshop will be led by:

  • Ashli Giles-Perkins, Staff Attorney at the Education Law Center of PA
  • Dr. Angela Crawford, Lead Ambassador of the Legal Kid Foundation

Together, they will guide participants through a discussion on:

  • How to exercise rights around school discipline
  • How to identify and respond to hostile school environments
  • Understanding and navigating special education supports such as IEPs and 504 plans
  • How to raise and escalate concerns about bullying and harassment

This event is designed to ensure families and community members walk away with actionable strategies and a clear understanding of how to support children’s educational rights and wellbeing.

“We are seeing more families facing challenges around discipline, discrimination, and lack of adequate support in schools,” said Adrienne King, Chapter President of NAACP Bucks County. “It’s critical that parents, students, and advocates are informed and equipped with the tools they need to stand up for their rights and ensure our children are treated with fairness, dignity, and care.”

For Students:Grades 5-8: Sponsored by The Legal Kid Foundation

Students will learn how to:

  • Apply the Rule of Law and the Constitution to protect their rights.
  • Become conscious citizens and respect the rights of others.
  • Recognize the strength of their own voice while safeguarding their mental health.

For Students: Grades 9-12: High school students (grades 9-12) are invited to participate in the Educational Law Center-PA Workshop alongside parents and advocates.

For Parents, Advocates, and High School Students (Grades 9-12):This workshop, presented by the Education Law Center-PA, provides:

  • Tools to strengthen education knowledge and advocacy skills.
  • Guidance on proper channels, processes, and responsible parties to address concerns.
  • Insights on recognizing and challenging potential rights violations.

We aim to nurture thoughtful student leaders and empower parents. Come to Newtown Friends School for a day packed with an inspiring workshop, lively discussions, and helpful resources. Our mission is to provide students with the tools to create positive change in their communities while supporting parents in becoming strong advocates for their kids.

The event is free and open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend — especially parents of students with disabilities, families impacted by school discipline, or anyone concerned about the educational climate in their schools.

Empower yourself and your children with the knowledge to succeed in school.

*Registration and parental permission is required for students in grades 5-8.
