The Ruth and Ben String Band plays Appalachian-style music. Led by guitarist Ruth Rappaport and her fiddler son, Ben Wetherbee, this inter-generational band's repertoire includes rousing, powerful old-time fiddle tunes and traditional, modern, and original songs that feature tight harmony singing. They are very spirited, and people of all ages love their enthusiastic and innovative music. The band features Joel Wennerstrom on banjo and Mike Siegel on upright bass.
The Newton Centre Bowl comes alive with music and dancing for six weeks this summer in the open space adjacent to the playground and just down the hill from the Tyler Terrace hut. With free open-air seating in this vast park space, there is plenty of room for families, friends, groups large and small to come together and enjoy diverse musical styles. Bring along a blanket, a chair, a picnic dinner, and join us for these summer performances in the park!
The park is a short distance from Newton Centre where there is plenty of parking and restaurants for you to choose from. Additional parking is available on Tyler Terrace and at the Mason Rice School parking lot. The concerts start at 6pm and are cancelled or relocated in case of inclement weather. Check our website and social media for updates on any unexpected changes to the schedule.
