HACC Membership Meeting to Feature Special Presentation by Dr. Leslie Dula McKesson

Newton, NC — The Historical Association of Catawba County (HACC) invites all members and interested guests to attend its upcoming Membership Meeting on Tuesday, August 12 at 6:00 PM, held at the History Museum of Catawba County, 30 N College Ave, Newton, NC 28658.
This special evening will include organizational updates, an opportunity to connect with fellow and potential members, and an inspiring presentation by Dr. Leslie Dula McKesson, a respected educator, author, and community engagement consultant.

Learn from Dr. McKesson’s powerful work on local African American history and community storytelling
Dr. McKesson’s presentation will explore the importance of honoring the lives and legacies of the enslaved, particularly in Western North Carolina. Her award-winning historical research and public engagement work have been featured in exhibitions, publications, and the PBS documentary Dulatown, based on her book Black and White: The Story of Harriet Harshaw and Squire James Alfred Dula.
In addition to her current work as a consultant and faculty member at Appalachian State University, Dr. McKesson holds leadership roles with the NC African American Heritage Commission, the NC Museum of History renovation advisory group, and several nonprofit historical boards across the state.
