Join Dartmoor Storytellers and the Friends of Pigwiggen Wood for an evening of unforgettable storytelling in the woods, gathered around the legendary Great Oak Table! Storytellers from across Devon and beyond will share traditional tales of tall trees, magical woodlands and, of course, the little folk.
The Great Oak Table is the longest oak table in the world, recently crafted from a single Tudor English oak tree that fell in a storm, and situated in a family-owned magical woodland. It is a local community project and a potent symbol of a kinder, more hospitable world.
This is the second of a series of Wild Stories events on Dartmoor in the summer of 2025: we aim to showcase amazing storytelling in extraordinary places. It is hosted jointly by Dartmoor Storytellers and the Friends of Pigwiggen Wood. It’s a free event, although ticketed so we can manage numbers in this wild place. Donations are invited (either beforehand or on the night) towards future community events at the table.
Age suitability 14+ (all under 16s must be accompanied by an adult). If the weather is awful then we will reschedule.
This event will be in the woods, held outdoors around the Great Oak Table. Come prepared for the outdoors with suitable clothing and footwear. There is no parking at the wood, so access involves a 10 minute walk along a quiet country lane, and once inside the wood, there’s an earth path which can be uneven underfoot. There is a compost loo.
